Michael Jerome Reece-Page [1] [2] (born seven Apr 1987), is a British kickboxer, boxer, and mixed martial artist .[3] [4] He is recognised in the MMA customs for his unorthodox fighting style, which originated from freestyle kickboxing (points fighting) and sport karate.[5] [6] As of October 19, 2021, he is #9 in the Bellator men'southward pound-for-pound rankings and is #one in the Bellator Welterweight Rankings.[vii]

Early life [edit]

Page was built-in in St Mary'due south Infirmary, London to Curtis Page Sr. and Pauline Reece, who were both Lau Gar kung fu practitioners.[8] His father, a British Telecom employee, hailed from Trinidad while his female parent, a nurse, was from Jamaica.[three] [4] [ix] [10] Page is a maternal nephew of Lau Gar Master Stan Dark-brown, who was also the instructor of his father.[11] [12] He has ix siblings, iii of whom are adopted.[thirteen] Folio attended Quintin Kynaston Schoolhouse in St John's Forest, alongside Olympian judoka Ashley McKenzie.[14] [15] He grew up in NW8 near Edgware Road and Lisson Green before moving to W10 about Queen'southward Park in 2003.[11] [14] [sixteen] Since almost anybody in his family was involved in martial arts, he felt information technology was natural to follow suit.[17] [18]

Kickboxing career [edit]

His begetter, Curtis Page Sr. was his teacher.[17] [19] Of his nine siblings, his sister Sefena and brothers Curtis Jr., Jamie, and Kalon are too kickboxing champions.[3] [twenty] [21]

Folio began training in Lau Gar at the age of 3 and competed at his first kickboxing tournament at the historic period of 5.[22] [23] [24] Past the age of 8, he began to devote himself to competition and entered his first international tournament in Germany.[12] [25]

Page won 10 earth championships in kickboxing – his first was at the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships 1998[26] in Orlando, Florida[12] when he was 12 years sometime[27] – and was crowned British champion over 25 times.[28] Past the age of 13, Page started inbound developed competitions.[12] [18] [29] To set up, he would train v hours a 24-hour interval for 5 days a week.[30] During tournament days he would often fight up to 14 times due to competing in three weight classes, and at one point fought 22 times in a day beyond five weight classes.[31] Another world title win was at the W.A.K.O. World Championships 2007 (Coimbra) where, at the −89 kg semi-contact division, he won gold afterwards defeating Dave Heffernan.[32] [33] He also competed at the W.A.Thou.O. Austrian Classics Worldcup 2008 (Kufstein), winning gold in the −84 kg semi-contact division over Krisztián Jároszkievicz.[34] [35] Folio participated at the W.A.Yard.O. Irish Open up 2008 (Dublin), earning silver in the −84 kg semi-contact sectionalization after falling brusk to Raymond Daniels.[36] Folio then won golden at the W.A.G.O. Austrian Classics Worldcup 2009 (Walchsee), placing commencement in both the −84 kg lite-contact and semi-contact divisions, defeating Bojan Miskovic and Zvonimir Gribl respectively.[37] [38] Page returned to participate in the West.A.Yard.O. Page was scouted by the Great Britain Taekwondo squad to train and qualify for the Olympics but turned information technology down to pursue a professional combat sports career.[45]

When not competing Page trains others in kickboxing, primarily every bit an instructor at the Hands Downwardly Martial Arts Academies throughout Surrey.[46]

UCMMA [edit]

Page made his MMA debut at UCMMA 26 against Ben Dishman on four February 2012 and won via technical knockout from a first round tornado kick.[77] His original opponent Sam Boo withdrew a day before the fight.[78] [79] The fight went viral and comparisons were drawn between Page and Anderson Silva.[80] [81] [82] He was paid £200 for the bout.[83]

On vii Apr 2012, Page faced Miguel Bernard at UCMMA 27 in a 176 lb catchweight tour despite weighing in at 165 lb.[84] Page won in the showtime round after forcing Bernard to tap out upon transitioning from a triangle asphyxiate into an armbar.[85]

Page briefly returned to kickboxing when he fought in a U.k.-one tour on 18 August 2012 at UCMMA 29. Page was supposed to challenge UCMMA UK-i welterweight champion Peter Irving for the belt.[86] [87] However, Irving pulled out of the fight due to a neck injury[11] and was replaced past Jefferson George after some other three opponents dropped out within a month for undisclosed reasons.[88] [89] Page won after knocking out George from a ii dial combination in the second round.[90]

Super Fight League [edit]

On 24 June 2012, Super Fight League appear that they signed Michael Page[91] to an exclusive year and a half, four-fight contract.[92]

Page made his promotional debut on two Nov 2012 at SFL seven as the principal event against Haitham El-Sayed, winning by technical knockout in round one via doctor stoppage due to cuts.[93]

Page returned to Super Fight League on 12 April 2013 to face Ramdan Mohamed at SFL 15 as the main event and won via rear-naked asphyxiate in the kickoff round.[94]

Bellator MMA [edit]

2013 [edit]

Afterward winning his UK-1 fight against Jefferson George, Page announced postal service-fight that he signed a five-fight contract with Bellator MMA, and that he will fight for both Bellator and Super Fight League under their corresponding contracts.[95] [96]

Page was expected to brand his promotional debut at Bellator 82 only pulled out of the tour citing surgery for an old jaw injury.[97] [98] [99] Another potential even so unannounced debut at Bellator 90 against Sean Powers was cancelled for undisclosed reasons.[100]

Page fabricated his debut on 21 March 2013 at Bellator 93.[101] He faced Ryan Sanders and won via knockout at 10 seconds into the outset round.[102]

Folio was scheduled to fight Kenny Ento at Bellator 102[103] but withdrew due to a rib cartilage injury,[104] [105] an ankle injury,[106] and a articulatio genus injury.[107] A later appearance slated for Bellator 109 against Andrew Osborne was too cancelled because of lingering injuries.[108]

2014 [edit]

Page was slated to fight Fight Master: Bellator MMA contestant Marcus Aurelio at Bellator 120 on 17 May 2014 but Aurelio withdrew due to injury.[54] [109] Ricky Rainey was immediately sought as a replacement after his Bellator 116 victory[110] and was informed of his opponent a calendar week later.[111] Folio won via technical knockout in the starting time round.[112]

Page next faced Nah-Shon Burrell at Bellator 128 as the co-main event on ten October 2014.[113] He won via unanimous decision.[114]

On 19 Dec 2014, Michael Page confirmed that he was no longer contracted with Super Fight League and instead signed an exclusive ii year, five-fight contract extension with Bellator.[13] [115]

2015 [edit]

Page was expected to face Curtis Millender at Bellator 134.[116] However, Page pulled out of the fight due to a cutting over his left eye which was sustained during a baby-sit passing drill[117] and required half dozen stitches.[118] He was replaced by Brennan Ward.[119]

Page faced Rudy Bears at Bellator 140 on 17 July 2015.[120] He won by knockout in the start round.[121]

Folio fought Charlie Ontiveros at Bellator 144 on 23 October 2015 with less than 3 weeks' notice after four opponents – including his initial opponent Marius Žaromskis[122] and later Cristiano Souza[123] – pulled out of the fight for undisclosed reasons.[124] Folio won via verbal submission due to elbows in the beginning circular after dislocating Ontiveros' jaw.[125] [126] [127]

2016 [edit]

He was expected to fight Fernando Gonzalez at Bellator 151 equally the co-master issue[128] but withdrew from the bout as he was already committed to officiate at the W.A.Thousand.O. Irish gaelic Open 2016 (Dublin)[129] as omnibus of the Top Ten Great britain team.[130] He was replaced past Gilbert Smith.[131]

Page defeated Jeremie Holloway at Bellator 153 on 22 April 2016, submitting him with an Estima lock in round i.[132] [133] [134]

Page's fight with Fernando Gonzalez was rescheduled[135] for Bellator 158 on 16 July 2016 simply visa issues forced Gonzalez to withdraw.[136] Folio accepted a contract to fight Paul Daley after Josh Koscheck withdrew but Daley chose to fight Douglas Lima instead.[137] Folio fought Evangelista Santos[ citation needed ] and won past knocking out Santos with a flight knee in the second round.[138] Santos underwent surgery later due to a depressed frontal sinus fracture.[139] The fight went viral partly due to the Pokémon Go-inspired postal service-fight celebration.[140]

In July 2016, Bellator claimed that Folio re-signed[141] with the promotion and had iv fights left on his contract.[142] However, Folio stated that he did not re-sign only had two fights left from existing contractual provisions.[143]

Folio fought Fernando Gonzalez on 19 November 2016 at Bellator 165 equally the co-main result.[144] He won the fight via divide decision.[145]

2017 [edit]

A proposed bout between Folio and Paul Daley was targeted for Bellator 179 but negotiations savage through after Daley chose to fight Rory MacDonald instead.[146] Page was supposed to fight Derek Anderson[147] merely an old knee joint injury[148] [149] and cervix injury forced him off the card.[150] Daley attempted to brawl with Folio after losing his fight.[151] Another fight with Daley was proposed for September 2017 in London only was turned down by Daley, who instead opted to fight Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 183.[152] [153]

Page was expected to compete at Bellator 191 only a fight was never announced.[154]

2018 [edit]

Bellator attempted to match Folio against Daley on ix March 2018 but negotiations stalled when Daley refused to commit to the date.[155]

Page fought David Rickels on 25 May 2018 at Bellator 200 as the co-master effect.[156] He won the fight via verbal submission due to a punch in the second round that opened a cut higher up Rickels' left eye.[157] [158] He spent a portion of his training army camp at Straight Boom Gym - Ireland in training for the fight.[159] He paid tribute to his cousin Helena Ramsay, a victim of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, during the open conditioning and post-fight interview.[160] [161]

On 30 July 2018, Folio confirmed signing a new 6-fight contract with Bellator, three for the tournament and three as part of the champion clause.[162] The contract volition let him box, discipline to Bellator's approval.[163]

2019 [edit]

Page faced Paul Daley in the quarter-terminal of the Bellator Welterweight Globe Grand Prix Tournament on 16 February 2019 at Bellator 216.[164] [165] He won by unanimous determination, in an uneventful fight in which neither fighter was able to mountain any significant offence.[166] [167] His father died prior to the fight on 26 Dec 2018.[168] [169]

Page fought onetime ii-time Bellator Welterweight Earth Champion Douglas Lima in the semi-final of the welterweight tournament on 11 May 2019 at Bellator 221.[170] Despite having some initial success, Page lost the fight via knockout in the second round.[171]

Page faced Richard Kiely at Bellator 227 as the co-main event on 27 September 2019.[172] He won the fight via knockout from a flying knee in the offset round.[173]

Page was expected to headline Bellator London ii against Derek Anderson on 23 Nov 2019 but Anderson withdrew for undisclosed reasons on 12 November 2019.[174] [175] Page instead fought Giovanni Melillo and won by knockout in the first round.[176] [177]

On 29 Dec 2019, Page fought Shinsho Anzai at Bellator & Rizin: Japan in a 173 lb catchweight bout.[178] He won by knockout in the second round.[179]

2020 [edit]

Page faced Ross Houston at Bellator 248 on 10 Oct 2020. He won the tour via unanimous determination. [180]

2021 [edit]

Folio faced Derek Anderson at Bellator 258 on 7 May 2021. Page was supposed to fight Anderson twice earlier at Bellator 179 and Bellator London two. [181]During the first circular, Page broke and flattened Anderson's nose with a kick, leading to the doctor stopping the fight between rounds.[182]

Page faced Douglas Lima in a rematch on 1 October 2021 at Bellator 267, Bellator's commencement card in the UK since the COVID-19 pandemic.[183] He won the bout via separate decision.[184]

2022 [edit]

Folio was scheduled to fight for the Bellator Welterweight Globe Title against reigning champion Yaroslav Amosov on May 13, 2022 at Bellator 281.[185] All the same, due to Amosov serving in the state of war in Ukraine, Amosov pulled out of the bout and was replaced by Logan Storley with the bout at present being for the interim Welterweight title.[186]

Boxing career [edit]

On 12 July 2017, it was announced that Page signed a three-year, xv-fight contract[187] with Hayemaker Ringstar, a promotional joint venture of David Haye and Richard Schaefer.[188] Page began preparation under the tutelage of Ismael Salas at Hayemaker HQ on 27 July 2017,[189] aslope Joe Joyce, Qais Ashfaq, and Willy Hutchinson.[190] While he still trains at London Shootfighters, he spends four days a week training at Hayemaker HQ.[191] [192] Page compared the transition from MMA to boxing to a "sprinter turning into a long distance runner."[193] He did commentary for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor in Las Vegas with Mike Costello and Steve Bunce on BBC Radio 5 Live.[194]

Folio made his boxing debut on twenty October 2017 at Hayemaker Ringstar Fight Nighttime confronting Jonathan Castano as the co-main issue.[195] He won via technical knockout in the third round.[196] He was supposed to debut on the undercard of Haye vs. Bellew but was still negotiating with Bellator at the time.[191]

Page wanted to fight at Hayemaker Ringstar Fight Night two on xvi February 2018 just Bellator wanted an MMA fight scheduled before allowing him to commit to another boxing fight.[197] [198]

He was expected to fight on the undercard of Haye vs. Bellew 2 just Bellator prevented him from competing due to its proximity to Bellator 200.[199] [200]

Page fought at Hayemaker Ringstar Fight Nighttime three against Michal Ciach on xv June 2018.[201] He won by knockout in the 2nd circular.[202]

Fighting style [edit]

Folio describes his discipline as a "easily down kickboxing style" created from a "mishmash" of taekwondo, karate, and kung fu styles competing under a points scoring ruleset.[203] [204] [205] Equally a low-book move-based fighter his game plan revolves effectually controlling distance and landing heavy counterstrikes with loftier accuracy.[206] [207] He relies on his elusive movement and knockout power to finish opponents and oftentimes engages in histrionics while fighting to maintain focus, unnerve his opponents, and rile up the oversupply.[xi] [208] [209] Page credited Curtis Folio Sr., Pauline Reece, Simon Lewis, and Marvin Francis equally being the most influential in his combat sports career.[72] [86]

Page received the moniker "Venom" from swain kickboxer Marvin Francis in homage of the picture show Five Deadly Venoms.[40] [210]
